Shopify’s New Customer Accounts are here, and Ordergroove has updated our Shopify integration to ensure you can take full advantage of the new experience. In this article, we’ll walk through the functionality you can expect, and highlight key points to keep in mind as you upgrade to the latest version of our integration.
What is it?
Shopify has rolled out new customer accounts support for third party integrations, including Ordergroove. This will affect how your customers login and interact with their Subscription Manager.
This update ties Ordergroove and Shopify closer together and comes with some great benefits:
- Passwordless login
- Easy payment updates
Before You Update
- All modifications made to your Ordergroove Subscription Manager are preserved.
- There is no Preview option when changing to New Customer Accounts, it will update immediately on your site. We recommend merchants with developer test stores to try it there first before upgrading in production.
- You can toggle back to classic accounts at any time.
- Ordergroove’s Log in on behalf of feature is not available with new customer accounts, since new customer accounts does not support multipass.
- You will want to update any places where you mention a login URL, such as your Klaviyo or Attentive flows. You can get this URL from your Shopify admin under Settings, Customer accounts, URL.
Managing Payment Methods in New Customer Accounts
Once you enable Shopify New Customer Accounts, your customers’ payment methods will be stored in their Profile page. For more information and instructions for updating payment methods, take a look at Managing Payment Methods in Shopify New Accounts.
How to Upgrade
Upgrading is easy, just toggle the setting in Shopify.
- If your Subscription Manager template is on a version prior to 25.8.0, you need to make updates to enable New Customer Accounts payment edits from within the Subscription Manager. Follow this developer guide to learn how to determine your Subscription Manger template version and what updates you need to make.
- Login to your Shopify store, and go to Settings > Customer accounts > Customer accounts and Save. Note: this is also where you get the new customer login URL. It’s at the bottom of the page under the URL section.
- Exit the Settings menu, and from the main menu click Content > Menus and then select Customer account main menu from the list.
- Add a new menu item with a Subscriptions label and link to /apps/subscriptions/manage
- Confirm everything is working properly. Navigate to your online store and log in. Once logged in you should see Subscriptions in the top menu navigation. Click Subscriptions to navigate to your site's subscription manager.
Note: if you are seeing a message that says "Unable to load subscription interface", try updating the menu URL to "<YOUR-STORE-DOMAIN>.com/apps/subscriptions/manage". If that doesn't work, please submit a support ticket to our team.
