Benchmarks Overview

Benchmarks are data-driven comparisons that show how your subscription program performs relative to industry averages. They provide context for key metrics like retention rates, growth, and cancellations by showing you where you stand against similar businesses.

By comparing your data against these industry standards, you can quickly identify areas where you're excelling and opportunities for improvement.

Benchmark Benefits

Gain Broader Comparative Insight

You’re not limited to comparing with just your own industry—you can explore across industries and company sizes, uncovering high-performing tactics you might not otherwise see.

Spot Growth Opportunities

You’ll know exactly where you're falling short—be it AOV, conversion, or retention—so you can set aspirational yet achievable goals and close those gaps.

Strengthen Strategic Decision-Making

With benchmarks, you aren’t guessing—your subscription program decisions are grounded in real-world context, enhancing ROI.

How Ordergroove Calculates Benchmarks

We calculate benchmarks using anonymized data from across the Ordergroove network—not general market data. This ensures the industry averages you see are highly relevant and accurate for your business. To preserve merchant privacy, benchmarks are only shown when there’s sufficient data available for a given filter combination.

Filtering and Fine-Tuning

You can filter all available metrics by:

  • Industry
  • Revenue
  • Average Order Value (AOV)
  • # of Active Subscriptions
  • Months working with subscriptions
  • Months live on Ordergroove

Note: You can apply up to two filters at once.

Metrics Available

There are currently 8 benchmark metrics available. They’re grouped into two categories based on how your store compares to the industry average:

  • Needs Improvement: Your store is performing below the industry average.
  • Keep it Up: Your store is meeting or exceeding the industry average.

Keep in mind: Every business is different. Even within the same industry, merchants may have unique goals, strategies, and customer bases. Benchmarks represent an average—but no single business is truly “average.” Use them as a guide, not a strict standard.
